IA Report: General Union Environment Action Programme to 2020 "Living well, within the limits of our planet" (2012)

Type of practice:

The MITERRA Model, the PRIMES Model, the GAINS Model, the CAPRI Model, G4M, GLOBIOM as well as GEM-E3 is used for the purpose of the Impact Assessment on the General Union Environment Action Programme to 2020 "Living well, within the limits of our planet". The corresponding IA Report (http://ec.europa.eu/governance/impact/ia_carried_out/docs/ia_2012/swd_2012_0398_en.pdf) gives an account of these applications.

The model MITERRA-EUROPE was developed to assess the effects and interactions of policies and measures in agriculture on N losses and P balances at a regional level in EU-27. MITERRA-EUROPE is partly based on the existing models CAPRI and GAINS, supplemented with a N leaching module and a module with sets of measures.

CAPRI supports decision making related to the Common Agricultural Policy and Environmental policy related to agriculture based on sound scientific quantitative analysis.

The Global Biosphere Management Model (GLOBIOM) is a global recursive dynamic partial equilibrium model integrating the agricultural, bioenergy and forestry sectors with the aim to provide policy analysis on global issues concerning land use competition between the major land-based production sectors.

The Global Forest Model (G4M) estimates the annual above ground wood increment and harvesting costs. By comparing the income of managed forest (difference of wood price and harvesting costs and income by storing carbon in forests) with income by alternative land use on the same place a decision of afforestation or deforestation is made.
